Members of the Month October

Lindsey Weintritt Davis, MD

I have been a member of the Emerald Coast Medical Association for more than 10 years and value their dedication to supporting physicians and fostering collaboration.

Our group utilizes many of the resources available to independent practices including group health and malpractice insurance benefits. The CME beach retreat is also always a low stress, high yield opportunity to network with colleagues across many specialties and learn about new techniques and services available in our area.

I am a breast radiologist practicing at Bay Radiology Women’s Imaging Center. I accomplished the majority of my education at the U

niversity of Florida (Go Gators!) and completed a one year fellowship in breast imaging and intervention at George Washington University. I was born and raised in Panama City and returned home to join Bay Radiology as their Director of Women’s Imaging in 2013. Our practice offers a wide array breast imaging services including 3D mammography, breast ultrasound, ABUS, ultrasound and stereotactic biopsies and recently Contrast Enhanced Mammography. We pride ourselves in keeping up to date with the latest and most effective technologies for breast cancer detection and are continually investing new equipment to offer patients the best diagnostic tools. We also offer a variety of non breast exams: DEXA, Xray, and standard ultrasound exams (thyroid, abdomen, pelvic, renal, and vascular) for children and adults.

I was drawn to breast imaging by the variety of modalities, the use of procedures, and patient interaction. On a given day I perform several breast biopsies, interpret diagnostic breast exams discussing the results and recommendations with patients during their appointment, review screening mammograms and screening ultrasounds (ABUS) and reconcile pathology results. It is an honor and a privilege to practice in our small community where there is rarely a day when I don’t see a friend, neighbor or former teacher as a patient.  I enjoy the opportunity to collaborate with the surgeons and oncologists in our community who treat breast cancer patients and routinely work closely with Dr. Moody to tailor an imaging workup that will assist her in offering excellent, expert surgical management to our mutual patients. As a native of Panama City, it is important to me to offer high level, subspecialty services locally to minimize patients’ travel for their breast health needs.

My wonderful husband, Don Davis, MD, cardiologist and your illustrious ECMA President, and I have been married for 11 years and have two beautiful and energetic daughters Avery (9) and Isla (7). In our free time, you will find us chasing the girls on their bikes, swimming in our pool or enjoying my latest sourdough creation.

Alison Moody, MD

I am a Breast Surgical Oncologist which means that I completed an extra year of training after my general surgery residency to study under breast surgeons, breast medical oncologists, breast radiologists, and breast pathologists to become a specialist in the treatment of malignant and benign breast disease.

On an average week, I meet anywhere between 3 to 10 patients with a new breast cancer diagnosis and we start their treatment together! It is an incredible job to take these women (and sometimes men) from diagnosis through treatment and into surveillance and survivorship.

Breast surgery is a rapidly changing field with nuanced decisions regarding surgical plan and order of treatments.  We have rapidly building data on safe de-escalation of care, such as the fact that not all early cancers require a sentinel node biopsy- some meet criteria for omission. No longer does every patient who gets a lumpectomy need radiation. I view my job to take patients through their collective options for treatment including options for de-escalation when appropriate.

My field requires lots of collaboration with other physicians and I enjoy and appreciate the collaborative cancer community we have from Bay to Pensacola.  Dr. Lindsey Davis is one of my strongest collaborators. She frequently makes the breast cancer diagnosis and provides assistance with additional imaging work-up and sometimes further biopsies. This type of collaboration has allowed for us to treat one patient with five small cancers with a large multi cancer lumpectomy and an oncoplastic reduction with contralateral lift in keeping with her strong preference for breast conservation.  We have a great community of medical oncologists and radiation oncologists.

Some patients are still best served by a mastectomy due to a large cancer size, high recurrence risk (often due to presence of a genetic mutation), or sometimes informed patient preference. Many of these patients have access to reconstruction with DIEP flaps, performed by Dr. Hugo St. Hilaire, which uses the subcutaneous tissue of the abdomen with the inferior epigastric perforator vessels as a free flap to re-create a natural breast.

I appreciate all that ECMA does to foster a community that collaborates and works well together. Because of ECMA, I know about many resources and specialties available to my patients over a larger geographic area. I have also been able to meet many of the PCPs who work and serve as the backbone of care for our community.

I have an amazing husband, Chris Johnson who is a minimally invasive gastrointestinal surgeon and we have three children- Roy (6), Walt (3), and Chase (2).
