Friends, Colleagues, Doctors,
Once more into the breach, dear friends, once more:
As the weather transitions to springtime so to do the workings of the Emerald Coast Medical Association. We have been blessed with increased membership and our most recent Panama City meetup testifies to this. It was excellent and heartening to catch up with so many of you. It was a night of networking and laughs and fortunately the longer daytime allowed for a beautiful sunset at Hotel Indigo. The event, kindly sponsored by many of our stalwart longtime partners, (such as tech eagles. Information on our website if you need IT help) was mainly funded by our friends at Brain and Spine specialists where ECMA board member Dr. Khurram Nazir introduced 2 new Neurologists to the community. Of course, we had other new members there too ranging in specialty from ortho to primary care to vascular and general surgery. There were even recently matched 4th year medical students spotted in the audience. All in all, it was great speaking with all of you and to my friends I didn’t speak with I look forward to meeting with as many of you as possible at the next event.
Speaking of which, the next membership meetup is in Destin on April 29th and I’m excited to catch up with our ever-growing membership to the west. The next major event that follows is the FMA delegates meeting where we collaborate with county medical associations throughout the state to hash out the legislative pursuits of the FMA. We are excited about the opportunity to express our influence on the state goals of our medical community as we strive to improve the healthcare experience for both patients and physicians. We will have a political update soon from one of our most esteemed members, Dr. Daube, who is on the political action committee of the FMA where he spends more time than any of us realize influencing how we will make, maintain, and pursue political relationships in local, regional and national arenas. His service is thankless and yet still vigilant. To paraphrase the words of Jack Nicholson’s character Col. Nathan R. Jessep in A Few Good Men “you want him on that wall. You need him on that wall”.
But wait. There’s more! We are proud and excited to bring another sponsor and friend, Mark Noon, to your attention. Mark is an author, speaker, business/performance coach and teacher. He was kind enough to sponsor a meeting with the board to influence our leadership and guide us in some team building exercises with a special focus on the patient experience. His coaching has been invaluable to me in my personal business journey as we have opened and developed our practice. I had the pleasure of interviewing Mark for a special webinar that was released a couple of weeks ago. If you have not yet checked that out please do. I hope you enjoy. And who knows, there may be more content like this in the near future. We look forward to feedback on this. I think it was very high yield
In the meantime, our education committee continues to work ever diligently on speakers for our upcoming CME retreat in January and we are always aiming to bring you content that will enhance your practice and alert you to the latest treatments and technologies available in our region. Thank you as always for being perspicacious, enterprising, compassionate, altruistic, assiduous, and loyal to your community and patients. I’m lucky to have you as friends and honored to guide this organization as we grow.
Warmly,
Don (Donnie) Davis MD, FACC
President ECMA
